Hearing aids
Hearing aids are medical devices intended for people with hearing loss. In the U.S., over-the-counter hearing aids are for adults 18 and older with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. Prescription options involve a hearing-care professional.

Personal sound amplification products, or PSAPs, are intended for people with normal hearing in certain listening situations. They are not substitutes for hearing aids to address hearing loss.

Music headphones, TV systems, remote microphones and captioning tools have different jobs. Ordinary headphones are consumer audio products; a hearing-aid function must be specifically identified for that use. Check the manufacturer’s intended use and compatibility.
